The Phillies put on a great fireworks show as usual this year – twice, as they do back to back nights of them. The photos I posted in an earlier series of posts was from 2009. This image is from this year’s exhibition. I have many more images to sort through, but wanted to post this for the 4th.
Here is a part 3 of a sampling of some fireworks photos that I shot back in 2009. I was seated in the stands after a baseball game so there was no tripod in use. I just set my camera up and kept shooting. I took dozens of photos and was surprised at how many actually came out looking good considering that I didn’t have a tripod. See also Part 1 and Part 2. I came across this video today. A group called The Aurora Light Painters auditioned for America’s Got Talent, and blew away the audience, Howard Stern, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne. It was pretty cool. I don’t normally watch these shows, but will be interested to see what they come up with during the course of the competition.
Here’s is just a shot of some fun the Phillie Phanatic was having with some fans during the 8th inning of Sunday’s game vs the Miami marlins. Generally he will get on the Phillies’ dugout, and play out a bit, or dance with some fans. It had rained twice on the crowd that day so instead he opted to show up in the suites to dance to some Chuck Berry, and enjoy some popcorn. Unfortunately for the people below he had a hard time holding on to his popcorn.
I had debated on even bringing my camera that day as rain was expected. It did shower twice, but my seats were protected enough to stay dry. Soon after the second rain shower he suddenly appeared, and I scrambled to dig my camera out of my bag. Luckily I was still set on shutter priority, and snapped off a couple of hundred shots as he danced with popcorn flying everywhere. I’m planning on trying to do a sequence in Premiere for fun.
Be prepared when you’re out shooting. You never know when a photo is going to happen.
I am still finding my way in terms of using the new iPad in my photographic workflow. I think any serious editing has to be done on a desktop, or laptop computer. However for fun, and creative exploration the iPad is an obvious choice. I used Snapseed a few days ago to edit my first “on tablet” photo, and I was impressed with the results. Since then I have been moving images over to my iPad to see if anything strikes me as I go through an old library of photos from a trip to West Virginia. I saw them in 2007 on the reunion tour when David Lee Roth had rejoined the band, and was pretty much blown away by the fact they were reunited albeit sans original bassist Michael Anthony. Last night they returned to Philadelphia for the long awaited tour supporting their new album A Different Kind of Truth.
When the album was released last month I was skeptical about how good it would be. In my experience when classic bands put out new material it never lives up to their earlier classics. Perhaps that may apply here…but…
Normally the end of the year is a time for reflection, and getting your ideas together for the coming year. In my case having been laid up due to an injury for several months I am itching to change things up. This is just a sample post in the spirit of Christmas as I get ready to redesign my site. I took these photos on a trip to Colonial Willaimsburg last December. I am unable to make the trek this year to which I am disappointed but thought that I would post these shots to get a little jolly!
As for changing things- this blog will be undergoing a lot of changes in the next month or so – both on the back end and front end. Hopefully you will be patient as I get this running again. I am looking forward to more shooting, editing, posting some “How I did this” videos and whatever else comes to mind.
